Iron Ore Mine Upgrade, Australia
Transporting 62 oversized modules across continents is never simple. This case study shows how TGP managed a 62,000 mt shipment from China to a remote mining site in Western Australia, overcoming tight schedules and challenging routes.
FACTS & FIGURES
Client
An Australian mining major
Location
Dalian, China, to a mining site near Newman, Australia
Project Period
2019
Total Cargo Weight / Volume
62,000 mt
SCOPE OF WORK
TGP chartered three ocean vessels to carry the modules from Dalian, China, to Port Hedland, Australia. After discharging the cargo in Port Hedland, TGP transported the modules 400 km to the mining site. Although the cargo measured up to 15 m in width, the only available route to the mining site was a single lane highway, which made carrying the oversized loads extremely challenging. Aware of the complexities the road presented, our team developed a detailed traffic management plan with local road authorities in Australia.
